Admissions Procedures - K-12

To begin the admissions process, please follow these steps:

Step One: Application and Interview

Applicants and their parents/guardians must first complete the application, then bring it, and a non-refundable $25.00 application fee, to a scheduled interview with the Dean of Admissions. The purpose of this interview is to discuss the student’s past and current school experiences, as well as his/her academic, social, and emotional strengths and needs.

The interview lasts 30-45 minutes. For an appointment, call (801) 467-5911. Please bring with you any recent achievement test scores, transcripts, academic evaluations, or intellectual/psychological testing results that you have for your student. (Keep in mind that records showing recent poor grades do not disqualify a student from enrollment, and that grades are just one part of the evaluation.)

It is also possible at this time to tour the school. A visit with the teacher and/or class may be arranged at a later date.

Step Two: Intellectual Evaluation by Licensed Psychologist

Evaluating the intellectual potential of a K-12 applicant is an important part of the admissions process. It helps us assess the learning strengths and needs of the student in order to determine whether he/she will be successful in our program. Because our mission is to serve bright and gifted students, we look for a minimum IQ score of 120, but we also recognize that many factors determine successful placement.

If you have not had an intellectual evaluation of your K-12 student in the past few years, you will need to do so in order to continue the application process. You are welcome to use any licensed professional trained in administering and evaluating the appropriate test (see below); however, the names listed here are familiar with our school and have tested many of our applicants. Please call one of them, or one of your own choosing, and make an appointment for testing. If you are using a tester other than those mentioned here, please arrange for the results to be sent to Realms. Our fax # is (801) 467-5932
