| A Major Change to Realms of Inquiry School |
As announced and discussed in our meeting on January 7th, 2010, Realms of Inquiry will become a Middle School/High School only, as of the 2010-2011 academic year. The Realms administration and Board considered many factors in reaching this difficult decision, but it will enable the school to focus its resources on the student population Realms has most uniquely served. Summary of Changes · The integration of the Middle and Upper School will allow us to retain high quality teachers. For example, in 2010-11 we will have six full time Teacher positions allowing the school to create a more consistent and trained faculty focused on Expeditionary Learning. · The International Trip fees will be integrated into tuition, and we will offer an expanded USA trip and 3 International Trips, including a Senior trip that will be funded at a higher level. · Tuition will go up, but will remain less than our competitors. We value our existing Middle School/High School community, and Realms has increased the amount of money available in our scholarship fund to assist families in need during this transition. · The school has committed to offering a consistent, stable core curriculum to meet and exceed Accreditation standards as well as family expectations. The narrowing of the school’s focus to serve only Middle and High School Students will enhance our expertise to serve these students. We are building on the school’s powerful history to enhance what we deliver to Realms students and to attract new students. · In 2010-11, the High School will move back into the main school building, and the classrooms and atmosphere will reflect a Middle School/High School environment. In addition, the Board has established a Building Committee to explore opportunities to ultimately relocate or rebuild the school. We look forward to working with the Realms community to strengthen our school, so we can continue to best serve our unique students, attract new students, and welcome back our lower school students when they are ready for middle and high school. |
